Farewell Don Frank. You will be missed!

      

Forty years ago my father and his two brothers followed their dream of starting a service business in Canton, Ohio.  Their motto at the time was “We Fix ‘Em All” and while their strategy was fairly ordinary, their passion was remarkable.  In fact, their passion is what inspired family and friends to invest time, talent and resources into a start-up business without knowing for sure what the future would hold. 

My Dad would say that Graphic Enterprises was “divinely founded” and his strong faith and dedication are both cornerstones in what we are today.  Like so many companies, we started as a dream but unlike most, we not only survived but grew into a leading provider of office equipment, professional service, software solutions and consumables to thousands of customers all over Northeastern Ohio. 

 I am proud to lead the company that my father started and I am deeply saddened by his death on September 13, 2011.  Since his passing, I’ve heard hundreds of heartfelt stories describing how he quietly touched the lives of others in a very profound way.  Dad had a way of making his friends and family feel special and never missed an opportunity to say “I love you”.  In fact, many people proclaim the title of being Dad’s “favorite” and in many small ways, I’m sure they were.

 Continuing my father’s legacy is something I take great pride in.  He was my mentor, advisor and friend. In fact, he helped me build my own career at Graphic Enterprises.  I will forever appreciate his knack for building relationships and will never take for granted the value of friends, customers, family, and anyone simply needing to feel special. 

While Graphic Enterprises has lost a true champion, it is my commitment to approach each day with the same spirit, passion and enthusiasm that my father and his brothers did over 40 years ago.

Graphic Enterprises Supports The Up Side of Downs

Graphic Enterprises has always made it part of their mission to give back to the community. We have supported many organizations over the years and are proud to continue to do so. Every once in a while, an organization’s cause just touches my heart. As a father, as well as an employer of a man whose son has Down syndrome, I’ve been touched by The Upside of Downs (USOD), a non-profit that provides support, education, and advocacy for people with Down syndrome, their families and communities throughout Northeast Ohio. This week Marketing Director Denise Dennewitz tells her story.

     I was sitting at a Green Chamber of Commerce meeting and I heard a story I’ll never forget. Shon Christy of Christy Creative shared his recent experience about the birth of his son. Already blessed with three adorable daughters, he and his wife were ecstatic to learn they were having a boy. But, 24 hours later, they were told he would be born with Down syndrome. After the initial shock, they began their research online and discovered The Up Side of Downs. Shon said that in a sea of negative information, USOD provided a wealth of knowledge and support.

USOD is committed to building a community where people with Down syndrome are independent and have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. I believe parents everywhere can relate to that vision. Shon’s story inspired me so much, I knew I had to help them in some way. 

I’m very fortunate to be employed by an organization that will support my passion for giving back to the community. On April 11, I and Amanda Anderson, president of Jackson Belden Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals, were guest bartenders at The Barrel Room. We worked very hard because USOD would receive all of the tips, as well as 10 percent of the sales. As an extra enticement, Ermanno’s Legendary Pizza donated pizza for all of the patrons. After two broken glasses and one dropped bottle of wine I managed to catch with my foot (it didn’t break!), we raised $500 in tips in only two hours.

Special thanks to all who supported this event, especially those from Graphic Enterprises. I would also like to thank company president Brian Frank and Director Administration Karen Brahler for their support.

Our total USOD donation will be $856.43! The money will go towards the purchase of a SmartBoard to teach groups of parents, students and educators in best practices for children and adults with Down syndrome. Welcome to Frankly Speaking!  My goal in writing this blog is to share some of the knowledge and expertise I’ve gained throughout my 29 years at Graphic Enterprises.  By visiting often, I hope you will have a better understanding of what today’s office technology has to offer.  When I joined my family’s business, office technology was in its infancy and copiers were rather one-dimensional.  Today, the industry is exploding with technology, and as a result, we can provide a wide range of products, services, software and solutions.  From small-end, multi-functional copiers to high-end production print systems, we are experts in a wide variety of color products, document storage/retrieval systems, scanning solutions and managed print services. We are your comprehensive solutions provider, and sharing what we know is just another way for us to partner with you.

Frankly Speaking will cover a wide range of topics – many of which will be covered by our expert technicians and IT specialists.  Our staff has advanced Microsoft certifications and is trained on all equipment and software products.  You will hear from them and gain valuable information about our industry and the new technology it has to offer.
